ABOUT ME
A Cambridge-educated tutor (Queens’ College) with over 6,000 hours of experience, I specialise in bespoke tuition for ambitious students seeking outstanding academic results. My teaching spans English, French, and Spanish from primary through to undergraduate level, including 11+, 13+, 16+ entrance, scholarship preparation, GCSE, A-Level, and Oxbridge applications.
My students have achieved exceptional success: securing King’s Scholarships to Eton, places at Westminster School and St Paul’s Girls’ School, and Oxbridge offers, alongside consistently achieving top grades at GCSE (9s) and A-Level (A*). I have also successfully homeschooled students to A* level and supported rapid grade transformation across all key stages.
My approach is both exacting and deeply supportive. I develop a precise understanding of each student’s strengths and areas for development, ensuring every lesson is sharply focused, efficient, and impactful. Lessons are meticulously prepared, and each is followed by detailed, structured feedback. While I am warm, encouraging, and highly personable, I am also unafraid to challenge students where needed — fostering not only academic excellence, but confidence, independence, and intellectual curiosity.
I am also highly experienced in academic turnaround. I have worked with students who have lost confidence or fallen behind, helping them to achieve results that far exceed expectations within relatively short timeframes. Two recent IB students progressed from 4s to 7s within a matter of months, through focused, strategic intervention and consistent support.
In one particularly significant case, I worked with a student who had been predicted a Grade 4 and advised by his school to enter for the foundation paper. Through targeted teaching, careful rebuilding of confidence, and sustained challenge, he ultimately achieved a Grade 7. Now aged 22, he has returned for further tuition and frequently cites this experience as pivotal — a moment that fundamentally reshaped his attitude to learning and continues to feature in his job interviews as a defining example of personal growth.
While at Cambridge I was listed in the Varsity Top 100, a compilation of ‘one hundred of the most talented, influential and hard-working students at Cambridge’, where I was described as being “one of the friendliest faces in Cambridge” — and I am still just as friendly now! I am extremely approachable and easily develop a rapport with my students, but I am never afraid to let them know when they are not working hard enough, which always comes from a place of care and commitment to their success.

Lowri has done so much more for our son than I could have possibly imagined a tutor could do. They formed a wonderful bond over time. Most importantly she just got to know exactly what he needed support on and what didn't need any work, so it was twice as efficient as anything else we could have done. Every lesson she was very prepared and would send a wonderful follow-up. We are so lucky to have Lowri and would recommend her to anyone.

From the first point of contact with Lowri we knew she was the perfect fit to help our daughter prepare for her Cambridge entrance. She has been very organised and efficient from the outset and a huge source of support for both our daughter and ourselves. Probably most importantly she is a superb teacher and has a very engaging manner. She gave very detailed and excellent feedback in the reports and was very happy to give us verbal feedback which was particularly helpful as our daughter was living abroad at the time. Our only regret is that we didn’t find her sooner to help with the personal statement and choice of college! Whatever the outcome of the interview/ exam we know our daughter could not have been better prepared. Overall I don’t think it would be possible to find a more excellent and lovelier tutor- thank you Lowri.

Lowri Amies single-handedly taught my son for A level French via Skype and in person; he had been forecast an A at best. She got him an A star. She is not just a very nice person but highly organised and pragmatic. She knows the grade is everything, and her lessons are channeled towards that goal. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone.

From the moment we met Lowri, we knew she would help our daughter achieve the desire of her heart. She went above and beyond to teach with passion, commitment and excellence. She brought out excitement for learning and brilliance within such a short time in our daughter, so much so that her teacher in school who had predicted her a low grade sent out a mail to attest to the remarkable improvement after just a few weeks of her initial assessment. She made an A grade! Lowri's methods and passion for teaching are next to none. Thank you so much Lowri.

I cannot recommend Lowri highly enough as a tutor. As well as her startling academic credentials from the University of Cambridge, Lowri knows how to adapt her style to meet the needs of specific students and specific exams. I believe it is Lowri’s ability to tailor her lessons to the needs of each student, and the real care that goes into her teaching, that has such an obvious impact on students, often in quite short periods of time. I should add that she’s also just a lovely person!

Lowri helped me to achieve an A* at A Level when I had been predicted to get a B. I left school in my final year and Lowri home-schooled me as my sole French teacher. She was extremely determined throughout the year, making sure that I did the best I could in tests and homework each week. Her feedback in a report each lesson was also very helpful for me to solve my common mistakes. Lowri’s knowledge of the texts and ability to shortcut what most tutors might not be able to when faced with a new curriculum is ultimately why I would recommend her to any other person in need of great results.

Lowri tutored our daughter Ruby and we just loved her. She was amazing with Ruby and her tutoring skills showed in Ruby's results. The lessons were interesting and Ruby looked forward to it every week. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Lowri - she is a wonderful girl and it was a pleasure to have her in our home.

We are very grateful to Lowri for her French tuition for both A level and GCSE. She has excelled at guiding both my son and daughter with a fine balance of encouragement, support, teaching resources and techniques to improve their grades and give them the confidence to sit their exams worry free.

Lowri has been helping my 15 and 11 year-olds for over two years in French, Drama, English and Spanish. Both look forward to seeing her and enjoy their one-on-one time with her. She manages to inspire and encourage both on different levels. My eldest is preparing for GCSE and my daughter has just successfully gained entry to her first choice secondary school (Francis Holland) with Lowri’s help. I would certainly recommend Lowri whose patience and enthusiasm both encourages learning and makes the hour spent with her both productive and interesting. For what it’s worth, my son is a scientist and mathematician but with help from Lowri discovered a love of literature and theatre.
